Destitute orphan Becky Sharp moves to London to stay with her firm friend Amelia Sedley. She soon finds employment and opportunity as a governess for Sir Pitt Crawley.

Becky secretly marries Rawdon Crawley. George Osborne doesn't want to rush into marriage.

Becky and Rawdon are short of money, but are being ignored by polite society.
